In my ever expanding quest to bring the most epic videos of Youtube to LT, I present to you the house of Youtube, where I shall begin posting everything that you absolutely MUST seek in all realms of Geekery.
As my first offering, I present to you the following.
A few things of Note:
1) I do in fact have no idea what she is saying.
2) The video is made using MikuMikuDance and ARToolkit; the first is a tool for animating CG anime style characters, and the second is for building Augmented Reality objects.
3) Yes, that really is a live shot of someone's desk. That dancing character is entirely computer generated.
4) This is done by an amateur, in their spare time.
Those last three facts make it pretty mindblowing, IMO.

I love it! I always love it when something is animated in a cell-shaded CGI sort of way. Honestly, the video is cool just for the artistic value and effort that went into animating the character. I can't even imagine how long this must have taken him. The character always seems to be grounded, even in spite of the shakey camera, the clothing all flows in a great exagerated anime style that really gives the animation substance.
Of course, there are quirks... The image tears a little in the begining. The second image in the background when it shows the guys computer lags behind the main image a bit. Her shadow is also very solid, and stays behind her the whole time in spite of the bright lighting from behind and to the left as seen in the finale. And of course, the wooden desk doesn't reflect her image at all. All just minor quirks and easilly forgivable given how high quality the animation actually was. I'm just saying, if this is fantastic now, if all of those were given attention this would just be magical! Not to mention other details that I probably didn't even notice or think of!
Note: I'm not really trying to be a downer or anything. I'm just making an observation. If it were me puting in all that effort, I can't say I would cover all the angles either. It really is very cool. Thanks for finding it Breguilas.

wow! I saw that before but I thought it was a joke. This is really possible now? How does it present the image on the desk? What backdrop do the pixles land on? *boggles*
*mutters to himself for awhile about the insanity that science fiction is reality*

I've seen ARToolkit used before, and it's kinda neat, though a little bit misleading when you see it and what it does hasn't been explained. You see that square on the desk? What ARToolkit does is, it takes the live image from the camera, finds that square, and renders the animation it's given onto the image, using the square to determine aspect ratio. Nothing actually appears on the desk, it's only in the camera's image. I saw this first on www.spore.com, someone set up a way to do this sort of thing with Spore creatures. Go here to see the video demonstrating it: vimeo.com/4064584 And to actually give it a try yourself, you can go here: www.universaloscillation.com/sporeskeletons/And now, to truly geek out, an explanation of Augmented Reality. This is a concept that's been around for several decades at least, but hasn't really been fully developed. It's the idea of modifying a live image and displaying it to a user in real time, usually via a visor. With current display technologies, we could start seeing some real application for the concept soon. An example I saw when I was first presented with the concept, is a standard office environment. If you needed to find a file in a file cabinet, the system could present you with an overlay of where the file is in the file cabinet, before you have even opened it. So it would be like having an xray vision on the file cabinet. Do-it-yourself home repair could really use this. Say you need to fix a sink, but don't know how to do it. Slap on your visor, load up the sink repair program, go to the sink, and the visor will show you the steps you need to take on the fly, as you are doing the repair. Here's a good site to look up Augmented Reality. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augmented_reality

Eh, I didn't like it too much honestly. Vocaloid can do some really cool things, and some people are really very good with it, but this was more of just 'Hey, look! I can make a computer program do something that would be physically impossible for an actual human to do!'
Also... the lyrics are kinda creepy... It's like the machines are alive and they're sad... And everyone knows that sadness and despair invariably lead to anger, hate and the dark side, and then we're all stuck in boxes being forced to sing horribly thought out songs over and over for the amusment of now sentient computer programs that have come to rule our techno age world!
...Or... maybe not...

*nod* The show is good, but the plot gets a little convoluted in my opinion. Personally I'm loyal to Cowboy Bebop. *goes all bendy like Ed* Bebop Bebop! Since we're on an anime schtick right here...I'd thought I would share this one cause of just the edit job WARNING definaly NSFW.

'NSFW'? 'Not Safe For Women'? Is that it? I know nothing about abreviations, so please forgive me for asking. And I'm also sure I'm way off here...
Also... All the warnings in the beginning of the video make me a bit hesitant to play it...
P.S.
Ooh! I get it! Not Suitable For Work! That makes more sense! Yay! I got it! I got it! I... still don't think I'll actually watch it...
