The customer is NOT always right. My industry is ample proof of that. So many people misunderstand that concept. It's not that the customer is always *right*, but that you *treat* them as if they are always right. You never directly tell a customer that they are wrong. That's just bad for business, and will loose you out on a lot. Instead of telling the customer that their request is stupid, you work with them to help them form a request that isn't stupid. This was a lost opportunity. In software development, experience is key. This was an opportunity to get paid to make an attempt at making a solid flash MMO engine. You don't need intelectual property to make an engine. You make an engine first, then you mold it to fit the intelectual property. There are many examples of game failures when someone worked with the intelectual property before forming the engine. It's just a bad design principal. You always start with the foundation, not the roof. As for getting sued? That's what contracts are for. Word it properly, and there's nothing to sue over.
