Spent mugs slept restlessly on the small table in the far corner of the Floating Log's common room. The fire burned low and mellow and the kitchen's constant steaming clatter was at least, for now, silenced in a few hours of well-earned rest before breakfast of the expansive and generous hobbit variety would be served.
A pair chairs was pulled up to the hearth and two figures spoke quietly, laughing in hushed murmurs, as they finished off their last drinks for the night. One was scaled perfectly to her small chair; the other was clearly not a halfling, draped a bit awkwardly in her miniature seat, but comfortable in the dozing warmth and quiet of the inn.
"Here," Ceallian said, her smile breaking for a moment as she produced a small purse from her pocket and offered it to Coltsfoot. "For your troubles. Make sure he returns safely and quietly, aye?"
"O' course." The hobbit lass snorted and rolled her eyes, tucking the money into her own pocket without checking the contents. "In tha mornin' I'll get him along the road."
Both the woman and her small sister froze as the door leading out to Frogmorton slinked open. Cay looked to Coltsfoot and arched a brow. Who was coming into this faraway tavern so late in the night?
