So after some deep discussion on mmos and lotro in specific this past weekend, I feel I need to post this.
After a great Halloween party in the wee hours of the morning some friends of mine sat in my living room having a debate on the point of such games and if they are a waste of time and money. It then dawned on me just how much I love this game and all the great people who also love it.
Lond Treneri; A haven to account a tale to the end. The love of stories if you will, and we can all agree, that is why we are here, the love of a story. Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest fantasies of the last century if not ever. And it has influenced more people than I am able to mention. The online game is only just one of many to bring the world of Tolkien to life.
No matter what country, state, or corner of the planet you dwell, no matter your political, religious, or social views, no matter your social status, tax bracket, or age you are welcome to come to visit Middle Earth in all it's wonder, made equal in a community who is respectful of others, helpful and fair.
Then on just one server, the one where story telling is much more prevalent, you will find a close knit group of gamers who love the idea of a good story just that much more than the next. LT may have been donned a "cult" by some, or by others an exclusive club, but rather to me Lond Treneri is nothing more but a great story, developing as each day turns it's pages.
My name is Steph, and you may well know me better as Deveon ~ and I would like to thank you all for all the great times shared online, and for helping prove my many points of an argument. And who knows perhaps getting a few of my friends to maybe try their hands at story telling in lotro.

Dawwww! *sniffs* I'm so glad you think so. It can be sooo hard to explain this game and the folks in it to others. Like Codex says in The Guild when her therapist tells her that her relationships online aren't real because she can't be physically close to her Guildies, "It's good enough for the blind!"
For many gamers, their online time is from a mix of choice and neccessity. These social interactions can be as meaningful as any you have face-to-face. I value my friends, their wellfare, and their feelings as much as anyone I care about in RL.
Thank you so much for this. *hugs*

Huh? *lifts hood* you mean we AREN'T a cult? Damn it I knew I should have joined the Black Dark Riders of McMopeyShadow! ;D In all honesty, Dev's really hit the nail on the head here, I can look around the guild on any day and honestly say everyone here is an irreplaceable contribution to the world of fantasy literature. We come from all walks of life in every direction giving everything with only the promise that we'll be heard. I'll never regret the day I joined up with this band, and I wish upon us many many more chapters.

I would be heartbroken if the people I see post on this forum don't keep writing in some format after they leave the Kin or the game. You guys are incredibly bright talents. And of course, since I picked you to hang out with, awesome friends too!

And meeting her face to face was like only the final bit o icing on the cake that confirmed my decision to ask her to marry me! all thanks to a completely random social encounter in a video game have I met my soon to be wife and my entire "real" life has been completely and utterly turned around and forever changed! HIP HIP HUZZAH! and now onto my post about the Blacksmiths

And meeting her face to face was like only the final bit o icing on the cake that confirmed my decision to ask her to marry me! Aw...! So sweet! Well, as for me, I know I've only been here for a short time, but it really has meant alot to me. Every time I roleplay in game I feel like there's a light... a type of purity that's always there, but can be dim most of the time. Being able to tell a story, no matter how small always reminds me of something good. Because of LoTRO and LT, I'm writing again, and thanks to the incredible response I've recieved so far from everyone here, I'm filled with a confidence I often forget. I truly love my stories, and I love the characters within those stories. I always hesitate with the fear that I won't be able to do them justice, but with the support and confidence I've recieved, I know that so long as I try and truly put my heart and being into it, I can create something good others might look fondly upon. I've been blessed with so many wonderful gifts, and sometimes it just takes the gift of having others to reveal them to you to finally acknowledge them for yourself, and more importantly to cherish and act upon those gifts.

I'm so happy and moved by this.
Here I was, thinking LT was a buncha weirdos, spazzes, social outcasts, borderline alcoholics, and otherwise rockin' people to hang out with.
It means a lot to me, surprising actually, how much you guys care about this little group. Thanks.

;D Luckily, we can all drink until that doesn't matter any more Except Brali, Tormac, and Xeko, and our other underaged members. They'll just have to be alcoholic nerds and social outcasts in-the-making. *winks*
