I've had a few people ask me how to do these handy in-game commands. They're very useful, especially for RPers (the /alias command is pretty cool in the heat of battle for screaming your battle-cry or for shortcutting to songs in your ABC playlist when you're relaxing at the 'Pony). Try them out and see if they're as convenient for you as they are for me. I copied these directly from the Help entry on LotRO's website.
Customizing the UI and moving Quickslots:
Question:
How do I customize the UI (User Interface)?
Answer:
Customize the UI by holding down CTRL and pressing \
Many elements of the UI can be customized. Hold down CTRL and press \ to toggle the UI Lock, so you can reposition panels to wherever you like.
Hold CTRL and press \ again to lock your UI. Make sure that you are not trying to enter the command into your chat window. You must hold down CTRL and press \ while nothing is targeted.
The /alias command:
Question:
What is the alias command?
Answer:
The /alias command allows you to create shortcuts for emotes or text strings. The /alias command works in the following manner.
/alias ;<designate key here> <new alias string here>
If you wanted to say “I pledge to find Flint Oakhewer!” often, but did not want to always have to type it out, you could create an alias like this.
/alias ;1 “I pledge to find Flint Oakhewer!”
Although you will not receive confirmation message if the alias is successfully created, from then on typing ;1 will cause your character to say:
“I pledge to find Flint Oakhewer!”
You can set many keys on your keyboard to have aliases attached to them. You can also create an alias that combines other aliases that you’ve created. For example,
/alias ;1 I pledge to find Flint Oakhewer!
/alias ;2 I also pledge to defend Bree-town!
/alias ;3 ;1 ;2
Now when you use the third alias ;3, you’ll say
"I pledge to find Flint Oakhewer! I also pledge to defend Bree-town!"
Setting emotes to an alias works the same way. If you wanted to set an alias for /sit:
/alias ;1 /sit
Once that alias was created, doing ;1 would cause your character to do the sit emote.
Lastly, you can also set aliases to have custom emotes with the * custom emote here.
/alias ;1 * walks out of the Prancing Pony, nodding to everyone on the way out.
Using the ;1 would cause your character to use the custom emote created.
The /alias command will display more information on the available alias commands.
And here's one I've never used but Cia uses all the time, the /Shortcut command:
Question:
What is the /shortcut command?
Answer:
The /shortcut command allows you to assign items and commands to slots in your Quickslot Bar.
You can assign items and commands to any slot in your Quickslot Bar.
For example, if you wanted to assign the emote /liedown to your fourth slot, the syntax would be:
/shortcut 4 /liedown
Happy travels to you!
