Colts gets the antidote to the poison she was given to lure Ciaphias into capture.
((Coltsfoot got a letter in the post saying that if she wanted to live, she would come to Weathertop. She and Kedwyr rode to the Forsaken Inn.))
Coltsfoot nods shortly to Kedwyr. "Ready fer death, otorno?"
Kedwyr says, 'Always ready to deliver it'
Coltsfoot smiles faintly. 'Aye, and I am too. Let's go finish this nonsense.'
((They ride to Weathertop together silently. Almost at the top of the hill, they pause.))
Coltsfoot looks up the slope, her eyes huge. "Ready?"
Kedwyr says, 'Aye, meldonya'
((Colts and Kedwyr ride slowly to the top.))
Coltsfoot sets her pony loose, unsteadily falling to her feet.
Kedwyr says, 'It is quiet.'
Coltsfoot says, 'I don' like this at all... Aye. I...'
((Ciaphias steps out from his hiding place in the ruins.))
Coltsfoot arches an eyebrow.
Ciaphias shakes his head quickly to Colts and Kedwyr.
Coltsfoot shrugs.
Ciaphias says, 'Kedwyr, get out of here!'
Kedwyr says, 'Master Ciaphias.'
Ciaphias says, 'You can't be here!'
Coltsfoot glances sideways to Kedwyr.
Kedwyr says, 'Colts needs looking after.'
Coltsfoot says, 'Why... Why can't he be here? He came alla this way with me.'
Ciaphias says, 'Just... trust me... it's not a part of the deal...'
Kedwyr glances around and nods.
Coltsfoot folds her arms. "No one made a deal with me."
Kedwyr says, 'I will take a more subtle position in the perimeter.'
Coltsfoot nods slowly.
((Kedwyr takes a hiding place behind a boulder where he can keep an eye on what's going on.))
Coltsfoot says to Ciaphias, 'What have you done?'
Ciaphias beckons for Colts to follow.
Coltsfoot hesitates, but follows cautiously.
((Ciaphias leads Coltsfoot to a spot on the very edge of the wall surrounding Weathertop with a deadly and long fall to the path and valley below.))
Coltsfoot says, 'What are ya doin'?' She jumps a bit, startled by a crebain.
Ciaphias looks to Spectre quietly.
Spectre watches as the Hobbit leads his lady over. His expression is stern, having noted the arrival of the Elf as well.
Coltsfoot folds her arms, her hand trembling on her sword as she notices the Man. She looks out over the edge of the ruins, closing her eyes to steady herself for a moment.
Ciaphias holds his boot knife to his throat, nodding to Spectre. 'Give it to her.'
Coltsfoot looks between her husband and the Man. Her eyes are very hazy as she shrugs.
Spectre glances to his left, making sure to keep the gap there in view, just in case the Elf decided to intervene. He narrows his eyes, though the expression goes unseen beneath his hood. "Weren't smart, missey, bringin' along a friend."
Coltsfoot says, 'Whass goin' on?'
Spectre says, 'I reckon ya did no' learn yer lesson last time.?'
Coltsfoot says, 'I din't know I wasn't s'posed ta. Why does my husband have a knife ta his throat?' She snickers. "I don' learn lessons that I don' wanna. An' let that fool cut himself. I don' care a bit.'
Ciaphias says, 'Just give it to her...'
Spectre says, ''bout time ta be changin' that attitude, if ya be wantin' more time ta do so.'
Coltsfoot glances at Ciaphias from beneath her lashes. "What if I don' want it?" She grits her teeth against a moan and grins again at the Man, all her teeth bared. 'I can' change who I am, Long-Legs. I ain't gonna be scared o' ya now.'
Ciaphias keeps his knife up, jaw clenched. 'Just give it to her and this'll be finished'
Coltsfoot looks over to Ciaphias again, a smile dancing over her lips.
Spectre dismisses her offhand and gestures to Ciaphias. "Seems yer little man, here, wants ta be makin' a bargain. An', 'less that Elf messes it up, I'm inclined ta take him up on it."
Coltsfoot says to Ciaphias, 'No. It won't be over, idiot Hobbit. Whass this deal?'
((A lingering crebain flies around the trio.))
Spectre lifts his dagger quickly and cuts the offending bird down before resheathing the blade.
Coltsfoot sits down, exhaustion written on every tiny movement. She spares a look at the bird and looks up to the Man, smirking.
Ciaphias says, 'Please Colts, just take it.'
Spectre looks over to Ciaphias and chuckles, motioning toward the boot knife. "Best be puttin' that pig sticker down, boy. Wouldna want ya slippin' up an' endin' this deal quick."
Ciaphias says, 'Don't make this harder than it already is...'
Coltsfoot says, 'Harder... Than it already is?' She laughs bitterly. "No matter what we're both in a big bunch o' trouble."
Spectre chuckles darkly. "Ya did no' tell yer missus what was gonna happen here?"
Ciaphias grits his teeth, glaring at Coltsfoot.
Coltsfoot says, 'Was... He s'posed ta?'
Ciaphias says, 'Don't mind her, just give her the antidote.'
Spectre shrugs. "Does no' matter ta me. Just find it odd two folks what be mated ain't talkin' ta one another constant like. 'specially when one be near dead an' tha other about ta be."
Coltsfoot says, 'Am I really worth ten gold pieces ta ya, Long-Legs? I'll plague ya till the day I stop breathin'. Do ya want ta have me on yer hands fer a goooood, loooong while?" She grins sunnily up at the Man. "I ain't on speakin' terms with him right now."
Ciaphias walks up to Colts slowly, shaking his head.
Spectre waves his hand toward her dismissively. "Ain't worth ten gold ta be listenin' to ya prattlin' on." He looks over to Ciaphias, his voice stern. "Put the blade down on tha ground an' come over here by me."
Coltsfoot keeps her eyes only on the Man, ignoring her husband.
Ciaphias says, 'Can't you just listen?'
Coltsfoot says, 'Don' do it, love. An' no, I cannot. Ya knew it when ya married me.'
Ciaphias says, 'I'm sorry... I have no choice.'
Coltsfoot says, 'No choice?'
Ciaphias lowers his gaze, bringing the pommel of the knife around to connect soundly with Colt's temple.
((Coltsfoot is out cold! Woe unto Ciaphias when she gets her hands on him later!))
Coltsfoot falls in a clumsy heap with a tiny squeak of fury.
Ciaphias says, 'Leave it by her.'
Spectre listens to the conversation then raises a brow, a slow grin spreading across his lips. "Come to me first, boy. Ain't gonna have ya runnin' off once she's got what I'm givin' her."
Coltsfoot moans softly, her eyelashes fluttering as she weakly brings her hand to her head, feeling a tiny trickle of blood there. She goes still again.
Spectre chuckles once more and shakes his head. "Ain't done this much, have ya?" He pauses. "Here be tha way it goes. You put tha knife down and come over here so I can bind ya proper, /then/ she gets the antidote."
Ciaphias chuckles drily.
Spectre says, 'If ya wanna play it different, find somebody else ta play yer game.'
Ciaphias walks slowly over to Spectre, the knife still held at the ready beneath his chin.
Spectre grins. "I do no' reckon ya can. But, I ain't lived this long takin' orders from others, boy."
Coltsfoot blinks slowly, her eyes barely opening. She tries to get up, her lips moving as she mumbles something almost drunkenly. She falls to her side once more and watches in horror, unable to stop the madness.
Ciaphias says, 'There's no way I can run now.'
Spectre considers only a moment then nods, one hand slipping into a small pouch at his waist to retrieve a vial of green liquid. "Over here, boy." He then turns and steps over to Colts.
Coltsfoot traces every movement around her with barely-opened eyes, obviously confused as she struggles to speak, then gives up with a soft moan.
Ciaphias stays tense as he watches the Man silently.
Spectre holds the vial out and behind him just a bit. "Here be how this'll go. I'll drop this vial an' you'll be droppin' that blade. Anything else happens, an' I'll be droppin' you. Got it?"
Ciaphias says, 'I guess there's no other way...'
Spectre says, 'Now ya be learnin', boy.'
Coltsfoot watches her husband silently, not comprehending what's going on. She looks to the vial for only a moment, her hand trembling as she reaches only a fraction of an inch up for it.
Ciaphias lowers the blade slowly, letting it fall with a soft clink at his feet.
Spectre lets the vial slip from his fingers onto the soft grass near Coltsfoot's head, his entire being ready to spring after the Hobbit should he try to run.
Coltsfoot bats uneasily at the vial, knocking it back towards the Man. She mumbles softly, "I don' want it." She closes her eyes and goes still and quiet once more.
Spectre grins and reaches out with his left hand to grab Ciaphias' arm. His right moves to his waist to retrieve a small length of rope which he attempts to slip around Ciaphias' wrist.
Ciaphias reluctantly lets the rope find it's target, keeping his gaze down.
Spectre's grin widens into a sneer as he moves to secure both of the Hobbit's wrists. "Honor....gotta admit it makes my job so much easier." He then tugs on the loose end of the rope and turns toward the center of the mountain where their horses are
Coltsfoot opens her eyes a tiny crack, blinking as she looks up to the empty space before her. "What's..."
Ciaphias quietly whistles for Tundra, face straining to remain emotionless.
Spectre waits for the Hobbit to climb atop his pony then grabs the pony's reins before calling his own horse to his side.
((Spectre and Ciaphias disappear from the ruins of Weathertop. Kedwyr leaves his hiding place and comes to Coltsfoot's side.))
Coltsfoot looks around, more confused. "Where's Ciaphias?" She tries to push herself up to a sitting position, falling back to her side. "Where IS he?!"
Kedwyr says, 'He was taken. In order to give you the antidote, he surrendered to the assassin.'
Coltsfoot groggily looks to Kedwyr. "Taken? Go, track 'em down!" She groans in pain, closing her eyes as she grits her teeth. 'No. I don' believe it.'
Kedwyr points to the vial beside her. 'At least for now, do not make his sacrifice a wasted effort. Take the antidote. We can worry about retrieving Ciaphias later.'
Coltsfoot pats the grass blindly with her hand until she takes the vial between her fingers and holds it up in the fading light. "Weathertop was one o' my favorite places. We camped here, ya know. Aye. I'll take it. Didja...'
Kedwyr nods.
Coltsfoot says, 'Didja see where they went off ta? Ya can see fer miles here...' She clumsily twists the top of the vial, holding herself up on her elbow as she inspects it. 'What if... This ain't a cure fer me? I din't want it to go this way!'
Kedwyr says, 'He used the hilltops, I can see for miles, as long as there are no obstructions. He covered his direction with the hilltops.' He looks down to Coltsfoot.
Coltsfoot looks for a long moment at the vial, tilting it to the side as if she'd pour it into the grass before her. She sighs in total and utter defeat and downs the contents. She gasps, gagging, and tries not to spit.
Kedwyr says, 'This went perfectly. The situation is not as dire now. You are no longer a pressing matter. Now all focus can be on Ciaphias and the slaying of his captor.'
Coltsfoot says, 'Aye... Slaying?'
Kedwyr looks off into the distance. 'He will not escape my bow.'
Coltsfoot drops the vial in ashamed disgust, her face a mask of hatred. She touches her head delicately with her tiny fingertips, hissing as she finds the swollen and bleeding knot there. 'Or... or mine.'
Kedwyr says, 'He has skill of unsurpassed stealth.....I may be the only one who might have a chance at ending his life.'
Coltsfoot says, 'I feel like I'm on fire!'
Kedwyr glances to Coltsfoot. 'That is the antidote at work.'
Coltsfoot glances to Kedwyr, shivering as she holds her knees to her chest. "It will pass. An' remind me that I'm married ta a fool! Why did he do this?!'
Kedwyr says, 'As for the bump....you can take that up with your husband when we retrieve him.'
Coltsfoot shakes her head miserably as the tremors begin to fade. 'I don' want nothin' more ta do with him! If it weren't fer my name being caught up in his mess, I'd say ta let him go ta his fate.'
Kedwyr says, 'I imagine he did this to spare your life. His actions did indeed do just that'
Coltsfoot sighs almost silently. "I coulda found another way. I coulda done somethin'! That ass... He's made a mess now, an' how do we clean up after him?'
Kedwyr says, 'Even the elves of Rivendell would not have been able to cure you in time, meldonya. What happened here had to happen. This is not over yet. The first stage of events has passed. Your life is spared and no longer in peril. Now we focus our efforts on hunting this man down and freeing your mate.'
Coltsfoot thinks for a long moment. "I s'pose it did. Aye. But now I've lost him, an' I have ta face my charges too. Without him ta clear our names, I'm in as much trouble as before... So my time now is just a bit longer."
Kedwyr looks up to the night sky.
Coltsfoot stands gracelessly and rubs her eyes. "Where do we start lookin'?"
Kedwyr says, 'Let us retire to Bree, you need some rest before we head out again. We shall start on the morrow.'
Coltsfoot says, 'Aye. Ta Bree, tha center o' all roads. There may be news there.'
((Coltsfoot got a letter in the post saying that if she wanted to live, she would come to Weathertop. She and Kedwyr rode to the Forsaken Inn.))
Coltsfoot nods shortly to Kedwyr. "Ready fer death, otorno?"
